The Corporate-Owned Banner — Francis Scott Key Revisited

Based upon The Star-Spangled Banner. Feel free to sing aloud!

O! say can you see by the cop’s mobile light
What so proudly we hailed at the journos’ last streaming?

Whose bank fraud and fake ‘change’ through the financial blight,
O’er the kettle we watched were so blatantly gleaming?

And the tear gas’s flare, the flashbombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our rights were not there.

O! say does that corporate-own’d banner yet wave
O’er the land of the fee and the home of the knave?

On the street, dimly seen through the mists of tear gas,
Where the cops’ haughty host in black helmets impose,

What is that which the Prez, o’er the cowering mass,
As he fitfully blows, just conceal, not disclose?

Now he snatches the dream of those who Left do lean,
In deep pockets of banksters he now rolls in the green:

’Tis the corporate-owned banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the fee and the home of the knave.

And where is that man who so charmingly swore
That corruption and bailouts were in too great profusion,

A war and a TARP that would never be paid!
Their cash has wiped out their failed bets’ confusion.

No reprieve would come through to help a debt slave
From poverty’s terror, or the greed of the bank:

And the corporate-owned banner for profit doth wave
O’er the land of the fee and the home of the knave.

O! thus be it ever, that debt slaves can’t stand
Between their low pay and the War’s high taxation!

Blest with profits and war, may the bailout-mad land
Invade more and more for the expansionist nation.

Then conquer we must, for it’s profit or bust,
And this be our motto: ’In Goldman we trust.’

And the corporate-owned banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the fee and the home of the knave!
